Feldy founder and Feldenkrais practitioner Chava Sorani explores how awareness and movement learning can complement conventional physical therapy
TEL-AVIV, ISRAEL, September 8, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Physical therapy plays an important role in restoring movement and function. On World PT Day, Chava Sorani, a Guild Certified Feldenkrais Practitioner and founder of Feldy, is highlighting another part of the movement picture: learning to notice how you already move, rather than simply trying to do more, stretch farther, or push harder.
The Feldenkrais Method® uses small, slow movements and focused attention to help people explore different ways of organizing movement. Rather than treating stiffness as something to overcome through greater effort, the approach invites people to become curious about how they move and explore alternatives. Feldy brings this approach into an online Feldenkrais program that can be practiced at home.
“People often respond to stiffness by trying to fix the stiff part,” said Sorani. “They stretch it, strengthen it, or try to force it to move better. Feldenkrais starts somewhere else. We become curious about the whole movement and give the nervous system more information to work with.”
Feldy offers a free trial of its online program for people who want to try the approach.
The question is particularly relevant to people whose bodies feel different than they used to. The World Health Organization estimates that approximately 1.71 billion people worldwide live with musculoskeletal conditions, which can limit mobility and dexterity.
Research into the Feldenkrais Method is still developing. A 2022 systematic review and meta-analysis of 16 randomized controlled trials (https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC9657136/) examined the method as a physiotherapy tool. The review found improvements in areas including balance, mobility, pain, quality of life, and functional outcomes in several populations, while noting that further research is needed.
Sorani sees Feldenkrais as complementary to, rather than a replacement for, physical therapy.
“Physical therapy can be an important part of recovering function after injury, illness, or surgery,” Sorani said. “But there is another part of movement that is easy to overlook: learning. Once we can sense what we are doing more clearly, we may discover that we have more options than we thought.”
Feldy is designed around this principle. Its guided lessons focus on everyday movement experiences such as stiffness, lower back tension, hip and shoulder discomfort, and reduced confidence in movement. Lessons are practiced slowly and comfortably, without special equipment, and emphasize exploration rather than performance.
The program also includes short daily rituals: brief morning and bedtime lessons, a few minutes each, designed to make gentle movement practice easy to incorporate into everyday life.
Unlike conventional exercise programs, participants are not asked to achieve a target number of repetitions, hold a particular stretch, or work through discomfort. Instead, they are encouraged to notice differences in comfort, effort, breathing, and coordination as they move.
“More effort is not always more information,” Sorani said. “Sometimes the most useful thing we can do is slow down enough to notice what we couldn’t feel before.”
Alongside its guided lessons and daily rituals, Feldy publishes free educational articles about movement, stiffness, attention, and the relationship between stress and habitual tension. The program is available online, and people can try it through Feldy’s free trial.
