Ephicacy Appoints Dr. Shekhar Thumake as Head of AI to Advance AI-Enabled Clinical Data Operations

Ephicacy today announced the appointment of Dr. Shekhar Thumake as head of AI, a new role that reflects the company’s growing investment in artificial intelligence across its biometrics operations.

In this role, Thumake will lead Ephicacy’s enterprise AI strategy and the development of agentic AI capabilities designed to connect and streamline clinical data workflows. He will collaborate closely with clients and delivery teams to identify high-value applications of AI while embedding interoperability, quality, governance, and regulatory considerations into standards-driven solution designs.

The appointment advances Ephicacy’s strategy to embed AI across the clinical data life cycle while preserving the quality, transparency, governance, and regulatory rigor required in biometrics.

“Every advance in how we manage and analyze clinical data ultimately serves the patients waiting on new therapies,” said CEO Tara Gladwell. “Shekhar brings a rare combination of clinical grounding and technical expertise, and he will help our teams apply AI where it creates the most value for the people we serve.”

A physician, AI strategist, and technology leader with nearly two decades of experience, Dr. Thumake has built AI innovation functions and developed multiyear strategies focused on high-value opportunities across the clinical trial life cycle. His experience includes using CDISC’s Unified Study Definitions Model (USDM) to support protocol digitization and interoperability, applying AI to unstructured clinical information to support patient eligibility assessment, protecting sensitive patient information through natural language technologies, and developing predictive capabilities to inform clinical trial site selection. He holds a medical degree, a master’s degree in business management, and postgraduate credentials in data science and big data analytics.

“The most valuable applications of AI in biometrics will be those that combine scientific context, trusted data, interoperable standards, and human judgment,” said Thumake. “Ephicacy has the biometrics expertise and client partnerships needed to turn that principle into practical solutions. I look forward to working with our teams and clients to build AI-enabled workflows that are efficient, transparent, and designed for the realities of regulated clinical research.”
